The teacher is to customize a list for the students a week prior to their spelling test. The parents and students will be able to access it on their computer or mobile device. It is the student’s responsibility to go on Spelling City and practice for their Spelling test using all of its features including the index cards, test me and teach me functions.
2.W.6.2c: Spelling- Correctly spelling words with short and long vowel sounds, r-controlled vowels, and consonant- blend patterns. Generalizing learned spelling patterns (e.g., word families) when writing words. Correctly spelling commons irregularly- spelled grade-appropriate high frequency words.
Spelling City is a fun way to learn spelling and vocabulary words by playing engaging games using any word list. Students are able to test themselves over spelling and vocabulary, play games, study using flashcards and learn by clicking the “teach me” button. The “teach me” section allows the students to click on a word and an automated voice says the word and then spells it for them out loud, the flashcards allow them to customize the list and study their little hearts out, the “test me” button tests them over everything they have learned and on top of that, they are allowed to play games to practice.
Bloom's taxonomy closely relates to this app in a sense that students are challenged at every one of the cognitive processes. The teacher is to create the list of spelling words so that the students are able to remember, understand, apply, analyze and evaluate. They are able to do all of this by using the Spelling City app/ tool and creating their own list, studying, and quizzing themselves.
