Kindergarten: Standard 1

Students are to play the “Free Play” mode and rewrite 3 words from the app and then we will put their word on our colorful Word Wall and explain what it means. They will put these words on bubbles that are printed out. They will decorate the bubble in a way that represents to word, cut it out and then paste it to the Word Wall.

K.W.1:Write for specific purpose and audiences.

This app is great for students who would like to practice while having fun! Students are able to find words within the scramble of letters. The words can very between 3 and 7 letter words. There are three different game modes: Free Play, Puzzle Mode and Time Attack. Once the student is able to spell a word, they can look up the definition to that word in the dictionary. There are multiple features to this app and they are all beneficial for this subject area.

Piaget’s theory about “Hands-On Experiences,” on page 36, describes this sample project very well. Researchers are finding that more hands-on learning helps the child stay more focused and interested in the activity. By having the students find words and represent their findings with crafts, it gives them more freedom and creativity in their work.
