Kindergarten: Standard 2

The teacher will use the iPad to go through each word with the class. Together, as a class, they will pronounce the word after the audio recording says it and then each student will have the opportunity to explain what that word is. As a class, the student will raise their hand and tell the rest of the class things that relate to that word. For example, the word is bird. Together, the class says “bird.” The students will raise their hand and I will call on them one at a time. The students may say, “birds have feathers,” “they have a beak,” or “there are red ones.”

K.SL.2.3: Listen to others, take turns speaking, and add one’s own ideas to small group discussions or tasks.

Little Speller is a great app for kids to continue to broaden their minds. Little speller offers pictures for the students to look at and identify. Once they identify the object in the picture, they are supposed to spell the word. The cool thing about this app is that the students, parents, or teachers are able to add their own voice, so when the student clicks through each picture they will hear themselves, teacher, or parent pronounce the word before they spell it. The app user is also able to add their own pictures if they would like.

Cattell's theory of crystalized intelligence knowledge and skills explains how students have accumulated information from their previous schooling and experiences. Having the students say what already know, due to what they have learned by also enlightening other students of what they have not learned yet, from their previous schooling/experiences.
